DIY rehydration fluid

This is an alternative to Pedialyte or Gatorade

Into 1 quart of water, very diluted juice or herbal tea dissolve the following:

  • 1 tsp salt
  • 6 tsp sugar source (maple syrup, organic cane sugar, coconut sugar, or honey (do not use honey if your child is younger than 18 months)

The goal is to make it taste good so your little one will drink it!

1-2 parts organic fruit juice (other than citrus) to 2-4 parts water with the sugar source and salt can be used!

Table salt is adequate for rehydration, but you may want to add a magnesium powder (1/2 tsp per quart of fluid) due to the depletion of magnesium levels from vomiting and diarrhea.

Thanks to Wellnesscare pediatrics for this amazing recipe!
